The Many Kitchens of Rachel Khoo

I’ve always had a real soft spot for the work of Rachel Khoo; as a languages graduate (whose second and third languages have slipped shamefully into disuse) I related almost uncomfortably hard to her experiences of navigating an unfamiliar country, language and food. I was offered an interview with her to coincide with the release of her brand new show Simple Pleasure; it was great to talk to her about how it felt getting her first Executive Producer credit, and also more widely about how the double standards food industry means that middle aged white men are still afforded levels of opportunity that no-one else can aspire to. Rachel also talked extremely generously about navigating white privilege around her mixed race heritage, and how that’s translated into pushing for representation on her own shows.

You can buy the eBook of Simple Pleasure on Rachel’s website here. The peach ripple ice cream sandwiches (pictured) are a thing of beauty.
